Company History

Sunrise Poultry Farms Ltd. was established in 1971 by Tony and Sheila Crawley. This was a natural progression from Tony’s long established business, which he had built up from a hobby, rearing and supplying point of lay pullets to other egg producers.
Tony retired from the business in 2001 and sons Phillip and Ady Crawley became joint Managing Directors.

As the egg laying enterprise grew, pullet rearing was contracted out to enable further investment in egg production.

The policy of continued re-investment has been followed from the very beginning, with quality buildings, equipment and machinery always a priority. Since the late 1990s Sunrise has developed Free Range egg production in keeping with consumer trends. Freedom Food approved units are being constructed on company owned land in Leicestershire.

To provide nationwide coverage for major retailers and to compliment our own local units, Sunrise works very closely with The Lakes Free Range Egg Company Ltd.

All of the eggs produced and packed by ourselves carry the “Lion” logo in accordance with the Lion Code.

Although major retailers and foodservice suppliers now account for the majority of the company output, we still provide a service to the local independent retailers.
